Please tell me about Marion County (Ocala) Florida?

My husband and I are considering moving from Pennsylvania to the Ocala area of Florida. We are looking for some inside information. What is Marion County really like, what are the safe parts, which parts should we avoid. We aren't really into horses so that part doesn't interest us. Is it a good place to raise a family?
