Knitting a long, on up sweater?

I'm looking for online how-to-guides for knitting a long sweater jacket. Preferably something for a beginner. I can crochet, so even something similar to that would be great. Advice for patterns? Simplest and fastest way to make a long sweater? Videos would help, but a step by step image catalog would be the best. Mahalo!
